make 'typeset -p' (and soon ${foo@$}) output strings safe for re-entry
into AT&T ksh93 (that we still must use octal, in this day and age, because dgk’s \x is broken… tss…) not round-trip, as ksh93 doesn’t encode hi-bit7 or \v, but safe
